Using hypnosis to combat stress.

Using hypnosis to combat stress.

Some schools in Britain are offering hypnosis to students as young as 10 years old in an effort to help improve their test results.

The plan will start in more than 200 schools in west Yorkshire. If successful, school across Britain could adopt hypnosis for those who want the help. They are targeting students who suffer from stress and nerves. All the students who undergo hypnosis will be volunteers, and parents will have to give permission. As a part of the program, the students will also learn breathing exercises and mediation them relax.

Trained hypnotist will be available to put the youngsters in “an altered state of mind” as they study for their examinations.

Dr. Phil Jones, an education psychologist and trained hypnotist, told the straits times: “members of the public often get a wrong impression about hypnosis from stage performers.” Used by qualified psychologists, it is very safe and has a proven record of effectiveness. We want to help their studies and exam performances suffer”.

Dr Paul Richardson, a member of the society of hypnotherapists, told the straits times: this is a very good idea. It is not uncommon for many children to be nervous in the time leading up to test- and hypnosis should be of great benefit to them. If carried out by trained people, hypnosis can be of great help to people who are nervous and need calming, and those suffering from stress.

This unusual way of trying to relieve school-time stress comes after many educators have criticized the examination system in Britain. They say there is non-stop testing of youngsters, from the age of five to the time they finish secondary school-causing constant nervousness among many students.

The strain of lessons will only increase. When they reach secondary schools, students who fall behind in English and math will be offered extra lessons during lunch breaks, after schools and on weekends.

Although some educators agree that stress is a widespread problem among students, they have doubts about the use of hypnosis to alleviate it.

Mr. Gerald hawker, head of one of the schools in the west Yorkshire region said: who knows what affect playing with minds will have on young, vulnerable children

Teaching union representative Nigel de Gruchy said: I am sorry education has come to this.

Will we end up using drugs to enhance performance?

Living with mother

In southwest china, the mosuo people have found the secret of a happy family life: no one over leaves their mother’s home. But your partner is only a walk away.

Tseta dashi is twenty-nine and the proud father of a five-month old daughter. He does not see his baby much because both mother and daughter live in another village, about twenty mils away.

Dashi prefers to continue living with his mother, along with this mother’s brother, his own two brothers, his younger sister, pizuchuma, and her two daughters. And where is dashi’s father? He has always lived with his own mother and rarely visits these days. dashi’s older brother has two children, but they live with their mother. The father of pizuchuma’s children still lives with his mother.

It all sounds very complicated, but it’s not. In luoshui village, the tseta family is normal.

This area of china is home to the mosuo people. For the mosuo, there is no notion of formal marriage and no marriage ceremony. Instead, the mosuo have what are called walking marriages.

In mosuo society, the adult children, men and women, live in their mother’s home even after they have found a partner; walking marriages make for a lot of coming and going in the evenings. Most nights, dashi’s older bother walks across the village to visit his partner and children, he returns home for breakfast; pizuchuma’s partner, who also live sin the same village, arrives at the tseta house in the evening and leaves in the morning. Dashi, with twelve miles to travel, has more of a bicycle marriage and only gets to see his partner and new baby about twice a month.

Walking marriages have many effects on family life. For example, pizuchuma’s yur daughter is the same at dashi’s. dashi is clear about feelings. I am closer to my than to my daughter, because most always consider upbringing and their education it is dashi and his brother are financially responsible. Pizuchuma’s children not father. And when dashi growing the most important man in his life was not his father but his mother’s similarly, dashi’s baby girl brought up by her uncles. Children take their mother family name and property down through the mother head of the household is the oldest woman- the adjust mosuo society the uncle is powerful than the father, said luoshui village headman the home, the mother is powerful than the uncle.

Walking marriages can from the age of seventeen-eighteen couples decide often they want to see each maybe not every day. Guambu ager. A mosuo see when the first child is born father’s family bring present the mother’s family adjust declaration of the relationship.

Mosuo divorce is very simple couples stop they want marriage if they stop get along. It is quite easy to split explains ager. As men and woman do not set up long together, all the household is the mother’s family so are no quarrels, it is harmonious.
